First Ascent of Mount Ophir (1963)

Between 2 to 4 August 1963, the Club organized it first mountain-climbing expedition.

The expedition to Mount Ophir in West Malaysia was led by William Chin who was the first and also for the next 12 years, the untiring outdoor chairman of the Club. Training for the Mount Ophir expedition at that time consisted of a talk on mountaineering, compass and map reading exercises, jungle trekking and overnight camping at Kota Tinggi.

The team consisting of eight members including the first lady member to climb Mount Ophir, Nancy Lee, successfully scaled the 1,287 meters high mountain.
